What should you do once you've made the decision to take a job with another employer? You should take the time to write a letter of resignation to your current employer and present this after you verbally tender your resignation.

Be professional, it does not matter if you loved or hated your job or boss, a short, polite, and professional letter stating your intention to leave should be your only aim.
Facts to remember when writing your resignation
People leave their jobs for all sorts of reasons, and you do not need to provide any details on why you are leaving the company. Resignation letters are a courtesy to your employer, so you simply need to state that you are leaving your current position to pursue other opportunities.

When should you submit your letter of resignation? And to whom? You should submit your resignation two or more weeks before your planned resignation date (depending on company/profession policy). And you should submit the letter/memo to your direct supervisor, with a copy to your human resources office.

What exactly should you say in your letter of resignation? Here's a basic outline:

Dear (Managers name),

Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from my position as (job title) within (company name), with my final working day being (date).

I would like to take this opportunity to say that making this decision has been difficult, as working at (company name) has been a positive experience and one for which I am extremely grateful.

I have enjoyed working with you and my other colleagues in (department/ Section/ Project), however I am excited about a new position that I will be undertaking and am now legally bound by having signed a contract.

I am conscious of the need to provide support to the (name of) division until my departure and I shall give my full commitment until then.

I wish (Division and company) every success in the future and thank you for the opportunities I have been given during my time here.

Yours sincerely,
