The job interview can be a stressful occasion so it's helpful to remember that "the meeting" is also your opportunity to ask educated questions about the job, the company and the people you could be working with. To make the most of any interview opportunity it is advisable to follow some very basic tips:
HOMEWORK - Research the company (culture), the position and if you can, the people you are likely to meet. Review your work experiences and be ready to support career achievements with specific information targeted towards the companies needs. Have your facts (accreditation certificates, memberships etc) ready!
ROLE PLAY - Once you have completed your research, begin role playing (rehearsing). Use the general questions which we will give you with when you "REGISTER YOUR CV". Write down your answers and try to make a concise presentation.
BODY LANGUAGE - Always greet with a firm handshakes. Try to maintain friendly eye contact with your interviewer. Open and upright body posture.
POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE - Be positive and realistic about your skills, goals. If you like what you hear about: the role, the company or any aspect of the meeting, make the interviewer aware! HR professionals are often very astute experts but few have natural mind reading capabilities. Avoid negative comments about past employers.
LISTEN AND ADAPT - Be sensitive to the style of the interviewer. Pay attention to the way the interviewer is dressed, office furniture, and general decor. These details will give you helpful clues for your presentation.
RELATE - Your answers to the interviewer and the company. Focus on achievements which are relevant to the position to which you have applied.
ENCOURAGE - The interviewer to share information about his or her company. When and why did they join the company? What do they enjoy the most? What is the company culture - the list goes on!
PUNCTUALITY - Never ever be late! Aim to be atleast 10 minutes early (plenty of time for last minute preparations).
DRESS APPROPRIATELY - To the company culture. Neat, clean and conservative. Formal is often recommended.
ADDRESS BODY ODOUR - Don't let poor hygiene or overpowering perfumes or aftershave ruin your chances.
